Before enchanting you all with the exhilarating scenes of my trips, I wanna tell about Dehradun.
Located at 30.3157°N 78.0336°E, Dehradun is the capital of Uttaranchal (now Uttarakhand, which i don't like) state for the past ten years. The place i should say has undergone tremendous changes that has both destructed and added beauty its beauty and serenity. With the burden of the tag "State Capital" the city mainly suffers from pollution and ever growing number of road carriers.
From tourist spot to education destination.
Add to that enthusiastic students (like me) who did mind going to colleges from their own places have come, thronged the place like anything. The city has become the buzzword for education.
Student population has increased ten fold in the last few years thanks to the standing structures of numerous colleges, universities and schools.
The ones that caught the eye!!
Upon arrival at Dehradun, the first thing/place to impress me was the railway station. It is perhaps the calmest station i have ever seen or been to. the population shoots up only when a train arrives.
Next is the famous Clock Tower (only that it always shows 6:05) in the Rajpur Road. Rajpur Road itself is alive and vibrant, but i'll come back to it later. Clock Tower or Ghanta Ghar is the most renowned landmark of the city. The Clock Tower in Dehradun is the largest non-chiming six faced clock today.

The Clock Tower has six faces and is the unique structure of this kind in the Asian continent. The Clock Tower was built before independence. But the clocks of the tower does not function at present, as i had previously quoted the still time. It had been so, for the last few years.

The Clock Tower of Dehradun is the most aesthetic structure in the city. The Clock Tower can be seen from a distance. Previously, the chime of the clock was audible from distant places of the hill city. But now the Clock Tower of Dehradun is nothing but an important landmark of the city around which you will find shopping complex, important institutions, renowned schools, government buildings (including the General Post Office), tourists spots and some eminent hotels and more.
From Clock Tower there goes a ten km stretch that ends in mussoorie road is the Rajpur road. Houses all the fashion destinations. From Charlie Outlaw to Flying Machine to Koutons, its a go-to place for the youth of Dehradun. There are also nice restaurant to smuck your lips at, like McDonald's, Punjabi Restaurant, Kumar's, Black Pepper and so on. Which one you go for, depends on how deep your pocket is. Do not miss out the cane sugar juice on the roadside. They are a treat to your dry throats. Sugar box is perhaps The place for pastries and candies. And if you want some more "Thanda" then you have the famous melting moments. There are also numerous book shops and cinema halls that can ward off your boredom.
The next best destination is the Queen of Hills, Mussoorie (pronounced masuri).

Dehradun looks belligerent during night from midway to Mussoorie. Mussoorie in itself is an extraordinary place if you are willing to explore its mystic hills. More about Mussoorie later.

Then we have the Robbers cave or Guchchu pani, Buddha Monastry, Forest Research Institute, the ONGC museum and much higher altitude places like Dhanaulti and Chakrata.
This blog is dedicated to all the places i have visited so far and to my friends who were awesome whenever we went outdoors..:-)
C ya soon.
